and what a trip it has been thus far.
I took an hour nap on Friday night, then woke up at 2, showered, finished packing and head to the airport. Everything went super fast so I had over an hour wait but I'd much rather be early than rushing so it was fine. Plane ride #1 I got stuck sitting next to the clone of my mom, same ridiculous wardrobe, hair, obnoxious laugh, lack of social etiquette (blabbing and laughing throughout a 6am plane), etc etc. Good times. When I got off I was very cranky, but then Starbuck's turned my frown upside down when I discovered they now have Eggnog Frappuccino's! YUM! My 2nd flight was horrifically long (especially b/c I was so anxious to get there). There was a traffic jam on the runway (I guess this would be what life would be like if we were the Jetsons), so we were stuck waiting to lift off for an hour and a half. Brutal. But I finally got there an hour late, and what an emotional arrival it was. We found out toward the end of our flight that we had a fallen soldier in cargo with an escort on our plane, so when we hit the ground there were a sea of civilians and military officials waiting, crying, etc. I couldn't shake this the rest of the day, it was really trying. Right outside the window across from me there was a military officer waiting to assist the coffin out from underneath the plane and he was sobbing. How many more lives will we lose for this war?
So needless to say seeing Cassie's face was just the medicine I needed. Unfortunately, TX drivers are essentially the equivalent of Massholes and New Yorkers combined, so as we were walking to RoosterQ (Cassie's car) in the garage a woman in an SUV almost backed into us, so after she acknowledged her mistake and waved us on she then reversed AGAIN and hit me, to which I summoned my inner Edward Cullen vampire strength and deflected her with my hand across her rear windshield. SERIOUSLY?! So yea, I was hit by a car (not seriously) within minutes of arriving, I'll take that as a sign that me and my liberal mindset is not safe nor welcome in this state. Cassie then took me to the obligatory meal at Chuy's a funky Mexican restaurant with amazing fresh authentic Tex-Mex and a really cool atmosphere. One of the shirts they sell said "Rock out with your guac out" which made me really happy haha. Here's some pics from the restaurant and of my awesome veggie enchilada:
Only in TX would you get some complimentary prayer with your silverware
Reunited and it feels so good!
Yum!
Afterward we gallavanted around Austin (which was a wise choice by Cassie to ease me into TX, as Austin's slogan is "Keep Austin weird", as it is very hippie-esque and liberal, aka Noonerific!). They have all sorts of funky stores that reminded me of Woodstock and New Paltz, and the people that surrounded us were not your stereotypical Texan, they had piercings and dreads and funky clothes and I loved every second of it. There was a store filled with blown glass, AHH LOVE IT! I want Santa to replace my Christmas tree with this:
We went into this giant Willy Wonka land candy store, in which I purchased Eggnog and Pumpkin Spice bark (Glorious!), a Margarita chocolate bar (disappointing), and Cassie got a Black Forest Truffle (mouthwatering). Here's Cass in all her glory:
We also stopped in this crazy funny crude store that reminds me of the Art store in New Paltz, where I got several X-Mas presents for people, hilarious! haha. It also had this ginormous costume shop that was VERY overwhelming but awesome, and people apparently come from all over and can rent costumes, etc. Their dressing rooms were lined and concealed with fabulous 80's cartoons such as Trolls, Smurfs, etc. I was in my glory. Here's a pic of it from the outside (LOVE the name):
Then we got ourselves orgasmic cupcakes from "Hey Cupcake" the mobile cupcake cart.I got red velvet and Cass got a Sno-Cap (chocolate on the bottom, vanilla on top).
This was their napkin dispenser, so sarcastic and witty. I think I'm meant to start a franchise of this, cupcakes and sarcasm?! What more can you ask for in life:
Then we picked up some pizza to bring home for dinner from Homeslice, which is owned by a woman from Geneseo so it truly is NY style pizza in TX (unheard of! This place does not believe in bagels, real Italian food, and Dunkin Donuts! Isn't that crazy?!). It was awesome, and dare Cass and I say it, better than Mama Nina's

Then we stopped off at the liquor store to pick up a bottle of wine to compliment our pizza and cap off our ladies movie night, where we encountered what appeared to be a stoner cool kid (smelled like weed and had a shirt with a weird picture of Jesus on it) BUT when we were discussing the varying costs of corkscrews (which you'll later come to find were cursed as a result of him), he shared with us that the man is what's keeping us down because the white man isn't in charge anymore b/c the man 'switched that shit up'. I was so offput by this I was literally speechless, as I definitely was no prepared for such a comment from what seemed like a kid who would have fit right in in Austin. When we got home, his legacy of oppression continued as the corkscrew was defective, as was our bottle of wine, and despite our valiant efforts the corkscrew broke inside the cork, we managed to overcome that hurdle, yet in the end failed to ever get the damn thing open. Here's some pics of our epic battle:
Our accomplices
So yea, needless to say after that we were pretty pooped. I soon after went into a delirious overtired coma in which I was pretty much drunk with tiredness. Hot mess.
Today I slept until 11 (yup, nearly 12 hours of sleep), then Cass and I got down with Billy Blanks, made some bfast then went shopping at the Outlets which was trying on our patience as it was swamped with rude people. We then treated ourselves to a tasty dinner at Jason's Deli which has a kickass salad bar and complimentary fat free fro yo for just over $7. Can't beat it! Here's a pic of our beautiful salads:
Then we did some grocery shopping, baked some no pudge brownies, watched the Season Finale of True Blood (I'm now a fan!) and here I am. Blogging away, putting off hw as Cassie cranks away. Tomorrow I'm going to school with Cass and will be sitting in on the classes she teaches haha. Then we'll come back here and spend the rest of the day doing hw because its gross but highly necessary.
Hope ya'll have a fab break, stay tuned for more updates.
